Dates have been an essential part of Middle Eastern and especially Iranian life style for centuries. Product of the date palm is cultivated since approximately 6000 B.C. The Iranian date fruit is one of the sweetest fruits around and also happens to come in many different varieties. The most unique and delicious species of dates are manufactured in Iran. There are near 400 varieties of dates known in Iran, but only few of them are commercially exported.
Dates can be eaten fresh, but the fruit is very often dried. Dates are good source of various vitamins and minerals. Dried dates are great source of energy, sugar and fiber. Essential minerals such as calcium, iron, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, magnesium and zinc are found in dates. Dates also contains vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folate, vitamin A and vitamin K.
