Product Summary
It is one of the fruits species from Middle East and south Asia. Almonds comes from “Genus Prunus”, and the fruit of almond is considered as a drupe. Almonds consists of, an outer hull and a hard shell and the seed is inside the shell.
The best climate for farming the almonds is typical Mediterranean climates which is warm, dry summers and rainy winters. USA produces the most Almonds and Iran is the third country by volume of producing almonds in the world. Iranian almonds are famous for their taste and extensive oils content comparing to the USA almonds.
There are two major types of almonds are grown in Iran. Normal almonds which is about 10% of total production and it is same as Californian Almonds but about 85% almonds harvested in Iran are Mamra (Mamro) Almonds. Mamra Almonds have higher oil content and are rich source of nutrition in comparing with other types. Mamra Almonds are the most expensive types of Almonds and they are only being harvested in Iran and by a smaller amount in Afghanistan.
Buyers are generally interested in buying either shelled or unshelled almonds, naturally almonds kernels are more expensive as the shells have been taken off and because it is the final edible almond. Some customers may prefer to buy blanched Almonds as well. It is when Almonds get dipped in hot water in order to soften the seed coat and then by removing the seed coat it will become blanch almonds.
